In music and theater, the human voice is perceived as one of the simplest means of expression. From whispering to melody and improvisation, moaning and screaming, it becomes a code allowing us to overwhelm the audience’s souls. As a natural attribute assigned to our genre, it is also the original musical tool, and the technical possibilities in the processing of an acoustic wave multiply the spectrum of its expression.
This year we will host three "At Dawn" events. Together with the invited artists, we will try to grasp select processes in which the voice is involved; both as a tool of creativity and as a physical attribute assigned to each human body.
Iza Smelczyńska is a musicologist and improviser interested in electronic music and experiment. She performs solo and in the duo called Euphonia Pseudolarix. In her practice she likes to combine analog and digital sounds, using contact microphones, turntables, tapes and field recordings. In the audio essay prepared for At Dawn, she’s focusing on the voices heard from afar and echoing calls.
A Dj-set by a duo Bąż and Stara Alikwoka will follow. The artists will play a selection of the flute repertoire from different eras, songs from South East Asia and South America, tunes made by insects as well as reggaeton ballads and song "Free Love" composed by Depeche Mode.
